| Morgins is an attractive
village situated on the Franco-Suisse border in the heart of the massive
Portes du Soleil ski area above Lac Leman (Lake Geneva).
Morgins is easily accessible from Geneva airport
by car (1hr 20 minutes), Bern(1hr 40 minutes) Zurich (3 hours) and
Sion (45 minutes). Trains run from Geneva airport every half an
hour and Aigle, the nearest mainline station, is just 25 minutes
from Morgins. There is an excellent tram and bus connection from
Aigle to Morgins. For further information on trains log on to the
Swiss rail site: www.cff.ch
The village has a resident population of about 450,
most of whom are involved in tourism and agriculture. Morgins has
the usual selection of shops including a couple of banks and ATM's
but its main attraction is the winter & summer activities. The
Portes du Soleil is one of the largest ski domains in the Alps and
has plenty of scope for cross country skiing; snow shoeing &
ski touring in addition to the highly popular downhill skiing and
snowboarding. The summer is particularly beautiful with its meadows
of wild flowers and there is a vast choice of activities to suit
all the family from the slightly insane "fantasticable"
in Chatel to the soothing waters of Lavey Les Bains.
Ideally placed in the center of Europe, Switzerland
has much to offer in terms of sightseeing. Montreux and its famous
landmark, the Chateau de Chillon is within 40 minutes drive and
Lausanne with its impressive gothic cathedral, cobbled streets and
Olympic museum is barely an hour's drive from Morgins. Crowd pullers
include the chocolate & cheese factories in picturesque Gruyere
(50 minutes) and the Diablerets glacier forms a focal point for
a day out touring around Gstaad and Chateau d'Oex.
