The Foilleuse chairlift will link you directly into the Portes du Soleil
circuit, so skiing is virtually door to door. The sheer variety and extent
of skiing dominated by a scenery both dramatic and mellow is nothing short
of breathtaking. From the rockscape of Avoriaz to the forested slopes
of Morgins with off piste tracks winding their way down to the village,
there is skiing for all abilities. One of the most popular areas for all
levels of skier must be the extremely long and varied on and off-piste
slopes above the Lindarets Valley. This spectacularly beautiful region
is easily accessible from Morgins via Les Crosets or by taking the Corbeau
lift via Super Chatel and the Linga in France. Coincidentally the Lindarets
happens to have some of the best lunch time stopovers in the Portes du
Soleil. Hard to beat is Tovassiere - that wonderful watering
hole on the itineraire route back to Morgins from Les Crosets.
Although there is a certain amount of poling through the forest when conditions
arent quite perfect, the skiing above Tovassiere is second to none.
Whats more; once youre on the Tovassiere run you dont
have to worry about another lift - the piste takes you right back to the
centre of Morgins. So whatever your level there is more than enough to
keep you amused. Beginners and children are more than adequately catered
for on the 2 nursery slopes in the village itself and they will love the
wide, gentle slopes above the Foilleuse whilst the more experienced wont
waste much time in finding more challenging skiing including the World
Cup downhill run and the daunting Swiss Wall.
BEGINNERS
Morgins is an ideal area for beginners with a couple of
nursery slopes in the village so you dont have to tackle any daunting
lifts or runs until you feel completely confident. Once you make it to
the top of the Foilleuse chairlift there are two more nursery slopes and
a huge expanse of wide, open, gentle pistes at your disposal. You can
also return to Morgins at the end of the day via the chairlift, should
you wish to avoid the final descent. The Swiss ski school offers private
and group lessons for beginners through to the most accomplished skiers.
INTERMDIATES
Morgins is the perfect launch pad for intermediates with
the pistes between Morgins and Les Crosets offering confidence building
terrain and very few lift queues. The Grand Paradis run from the top of
Crosets to Champery is a stunning trail through varied terrain liberally
scattered with mountain restaurants. Equally good is the skiing above
Torgon and Chapelle dAbondance; this is an area that is a veritable
haven, particularly in high season where you can still find deserted slopes
with spectacular views of Lac Leman and Montreux. The Linga valley and
the skiing above Plaine Dranse must offer some of the finest on and off
piste skiing in the Alps, noteworthy is the Perdrix Blanches; a roller
coaster run full of fun and adventure guaranteed to enthral time and time
again!
ADVANCED
Strong intermediate and advanced skiers are well
catered for with plenty of challenging runs designed to release that adrenalin
charge for the truly thrilling experience. Intoxicating mogul fields,
which leave you breathless & energised, include the black above Torgon,
the World Cup downhill in Avoriaz and the infamous Swiss Wall, reckoned
to be one of the 10 most difficult runs in the Alps. Just as exciting
are the endless possibilities that exist for off-piste skiing and ski
alpinisme for the truly free spirit.
