SINGING WEEK IN MORGINS, SWITZERLAND
Wednesday 29th July - Wednesday 5th August 2009
Mark Jones, Director of Music at Gresham's School, north Norfolk & a specialist in voice training will lead rehearsals, working towards a series of concerts which will take place in and around Morgins, a picturesque village south of Lake Geneva high in the mountains right on the Swiss/French border.
Mark was educated at Exeter Cathedral School, Devon where he was head chorister. After 5 years at Kings College, Taunton where he won the major music scholarship, he studied piano and organ at the Royal College of Music which included a 2 year postgraduate conducting course and a year working as repetiteur in the Opera School. Mark's main work at Gresham's has been choral and he works with many of the singers on an individual basis. He runs three choirs at Gresham's, the Chapel Choir consisting of 80 boys and girls singing two choral services each week and two chamber choirs which sing a wide range of music. Each year 45 singers undertake a week long tour to Europe and recent tours have included Italy, France, Spain and Portugal.
The Morgins Singing Week.
The Morgins Choral Workshop is in its fifth year. It is
suitable for the beginner singer just as much as the more experienced
singer.
Rehearsals will take place in the mornings and the evenings, leaving
the afternoons free for you to relax and enjoy the beauty of the Alps.
Walking, cycling, tennis and swimming are among the options available
to you every afternoon. The music will be very varied, with some sacred
music as well as some secular songs. The major work to be studied has
yet to be decided. The work will have its challenging moments but is perfectly
possible for less experienced singers to learn in the week. Over the past
four years several singers have been reintroduced to the joys of singing
again! The week will finish with concerts on the Monday and Tuesday evenings
to celebrate the week's activities as well as a Mass at the weekend..
The cost for the Morgins Choral Workshop will be £305 per person and this includes:
• Return Transfer from Geneva to Morgins.
We will collect from the airport at 16:00 on the 29th July 2009 &
return to the airport .on the 5th. August
2009 departing Morgins at 12:00.
• Half-board accommodation (en-suite) in one of our traditional
chalets. Please note that lunches are not provided.
• Voice training and rehearsals.
• Scores for the duration of the week.
• Transportation to the various venues.
Please note that there will be a single room suplement of £100
Easyjet flies from several UK airports into Geneva. The earlier you book
your flight the cheaper it is and by flying mid-week prices should be
lower than the weekends.
We have a limited number of places available and we will work on a first come, first served basis. This is a unique opportunity to improve the quality of one's voice under expert instruction alongside others who share the same enthusiasm for singing.
